The Al Walker & Associates, Inc.
Philosophy and Recommended Training Process
Our primary training goals:
1. All of our programs are participant-centered - not instructor-centered
2. We provide the highest quality of instruction and material available
3. Everyone has fun learning,
We believe in not only adding to the knowledge base of participants in our programs through lecture, examples, extensive participant involvement, written material, various forms of media, and multiple methods of accountability, however we are fully aware that knowledge by itself is useless. The only benefit of knowledge is in sharing of it with others and the application. That is why we place our highest priority on how to use and apply the skills needed to get results out of what they learn in the classroom…in other words, our primary goal is to help each participant put wheels under the knowledge they acquire and get maximum mileage out of their newly developed or improved skills, systems and processes.
Our thirty-plus years of experience tells us that even though a lot of great ideas have been presented in multiple forms to millions of people in thousands of classes on every topic imaginable, unless someone develops confidence in using an idea, they will revert to old habits once they are back in the "real world." Only a precious few will sit in front of a client, an associate, a direct report, a vendor, or any of the multitude of people we interact with every day, and right before they speak, think to themselves, “Now let’s see, what was it they taught us about how to handle this?” That is why we believe in role play and hands-on participation by each individual in every program…even when we know most participants are not excited about getting involved to that extent.
That is why quality instruction, the ability to convince participants of the benefits they’ll receive, and holding them accountable play such a vital role in the success of any skills based training. With that in mind, the process we recommend that will assure you of a high quality program that has been customized and adapted to meet your specific needs is outlined in the following steps.
The Training Process
Step 1: Identify your needs based on your perspective and as many others as are feasible to obtain through
checklists, interviews or written questionnaires.
Step 2: After analyzing the information, make our recommendations including objectives, session topic(s), and accountability and follow up procedures.
Step 3: Agree on the training schedule, fees and any other related details.
Step 4: Schedule and Conduct the training as agreed
Step 5 In multiple session programs, beginning with the second session, each participant will share their experiences in applying the skills learned in the previous session.
Step 6: Provide periodic updates if multiple sessions are involved.
Step 7: Have participants complete in depth evaluations and “learning logs” outlining specifically what they learned and how they intend to use it.
